The Cleveland Cavalier – Sir CC
- About
When the Cleveland Cavaliers wanted to add to their mascot mix in 2010, we got the call.
Sir CC is a big, swaggering Cavalier. The Cavs wanted a mascot with a big head and big muscles. In collaboration with the Cavs, our brilliant designer came up with the design.
- Hometown
- Cleveland, OH
- Special Features
When the head was big enough, when the hat had enough flair, the muscles were brawny enough, the expression intense enough, and the sword long enough, we went to work bringing Sir CC to life…and what a great, swaggering mascot he is.
Sir C.C. has changed a bit since the start. He now has wonderful muscles and a tattoo. His head and hat are slightly smaller, so he can be more athletic.

Valdar the Viking

A glowing recommendation:
I’m very happy to tell you that the Viking costume you made for us has gone on to perform outstandingly. Our Viking (now named Valdar) has become part of the fabric (haha; I bet you’ve never heard that one before) of campus life and an important part of everything we do, from Commencement ceremonies to fundraising events, to major announcements and everything in between. He even has his own Facebook presence: https://www.facebook.com/DMCViking
In fact, he’s getting so much use that our Student Leadership and Campus Life office is looking into having another head constructed for the costume, with identical specs as the original.

Pop-top Can Mascots
- About
We all love popping the top and slurping down a nice, cool beverage. Mmmm-m-m-m! The first pop-top cans we made were the Bud Beer Cans for the Grand Rapids Griffins Hockey Beer Can Race. They race around the ice, while Griff & Finn, the mascots, do everything they can to stop them from getting to the finish line. Pop-top cans have become a speciality, here at Avant Garb Mascots. Hewlett-Packard Knight
- About
Way, way before I knew I was in the mascot-making business, I got a call from Hewlett Packard. They needed a mascot to introduce one of their newest product. That was back in 1986.
In 2016, we got a call from Adcetera, a brilliant ad agency, in Houston, who had developed a very intense computer-game-like Knight for HewlettPackard. They wanted the animation turned into a mascot.
We took on the challenge!

It’s modern-intergalactic-ancient-to-future riff on a knight. Just making the paper patterns was exciting – bringing the Hewlett-Packard Knight mascot to life – thrilling!

Jinx, Jazzy, Jawz Jaguars
- About
Representing IUPUI, first there was Jinx, a nice, round, friendly Jaguar. Jinx was good with community relations. However, Jinx didn’t have the game-face and muscular body that the athletic people wanted for their mascot. IUPUI wanted to add to the mascot mix. They wanted to keep Jinx as their friendly, community mascot, but they also wanted a more aggressive, game face mascot for that more closely matched their logo. We made a few changes to the expression. We added a few teeth, put on some fun whisker, widened the snout and gave Jinx a fashion make-over. The mascot looks better, but it’s hard to put a finger on exactly what has changed. It’s as though the mascot has gone to the spa—fans weren’t sure what is different, they just notice a bit more bounce in the step.
In 2015, we got another call. IUPUI wanted to add a female mascot. Indianapolis is a jazz hotspot. She was named Jazzy. Jazzy has brought new vitality and verve to IUPUI’s mascot program. She pops up at campus events and at Indianapolis venues

The Athletics people have a couple of Jawz mascots. Campus relations have a couple of sets. They use them almost everyday to greet future students, for alumni functions and community events. One of those community events was —-
The 2012 Superbowl in Indianapolis when Jinx & Jawz Jaguars zipped across town on the zipline.
Jinx, Jawz & Jazzy are rock stars on the campus and hugely popular in the larger environs of Indianapolis.
